3 days in Door County, WI

Since we were headed for Appleton, WI for the Open Air Classic, we decided to leave home a few days early and spend some 'vacation days' in Door County. On one of the other rallys, we had spent a day in the area hunting checkpoints. This gave us a chance to see more of the area and gave us a few more days of leisure. It's a charming spot, and one we'd like to return to another time.

Some pics from our 'album'...click to enlarge.

Our 'home away from home'...a perfect spot

Back off the highway...quiet...note tennis court

Whimsical grounds...note putting green

Pool...and great view of Green Bay

Watch the sunset from your room...or here

And the sunsets are spectacular

Lots of unique shops in the area

And a restaurant with goats on the roof

And did I mention the sunsets?

We attended a 'fish boil'...the area is noted for them

They start with a big pot of boiling water...

...add potatoes and onions...

...and whitefish fresh from Lake Michigan...

...and KEROSINE to the fire to make sure it boils over

Then it all comes together at a buffet

And they bone the fish...and add lots of butter

Can you believe it...we found a winery

And ONE MORE sunset
